This is Keeper's Pond (Pen Ffordd Goch pond) on the top of a mountain in acid moorland near old mine workings.  Bleak sometimes, but beautiful this day

Cwm Clydach abounded with fungi of all sorts.  Here are Keith Alexander, Alan Stubbs and Roger Morris all appreciating an impressive growth of a coral fungus (Ramaria species) on the bank.  I took some home to rear any fungus gnats present, but no luck!

Erica McAlister from the Natural History Museum demonstrates their impressive battery powered suction sampler. So quiet compared to the D-Vac suction samplers and with very gentle suction, so that individual flies can be sucked off leaves with no damage.

On the Sunday, near Llangattock, we swept an alder wood on a steep bank near a canal.  Brilliant sunshine.  The photo shows Malcolm Smart, Peter Chandler, Keith Alexander and Roger Morris.  Lots of interest in what Peter has just caught in his pooter!

By the river near Pont Rhys Powell, we came across this large veteran oak which actually had a wild honey bee's nest in the base.  This record shot is to send to the Ancient Tree Register.  Dipterists Kim Goodger, Howard Bentley, Dave Gibbs, Erica McAlister and Peter Chandler give a good idea of the large diameter of the tree

We started some way up the Black Mountain (Mynydd Du) and stopped off at various points down a river valley. The sun shone, flies flew and I was impressed by the beauty of the place
