What is this?

Hello

I recently had the pleasure of spotting a fascinating little fly on the ceiling - it was around for a few days. I was looking in books/online etc trying to identify it when I came across this website - lo and behold, when I got to this page http://www.dipteristsforum.org.uk/ there is a picture of the fly - but no identification that I could see  - what is it called please?

Thanks

Anna

Re: What is this?

Of course the page has constantly changing photos and I can't upload the photos I took (too big?) - but it is a tiny fly with wings like Dame Edna's glasses, clear with a border. I'm hoping someone will recognise it through this description! Sorry!

Re: What is this?

Just found it in the gallery - it is Palloptera muliebris - and I also live near Lancaster so am going to go and have a read about these chaps! Thanks, Anna
