What is happening to this Syrphus during cleaning?

I took these photos three seconds apart. Is it lifting up something to clean under? Why that hole? Very strange. Have followed up with suggestion to apply to UK Hoverflies Facebook group but acceptance pending and too curious to wait till I learn how to use it if I get on.  How long does it take to get acceptance and since it is Group and there are over 2,000 members who decides if you can join?

You should get accepted onto the UK Hoverflies facebook group very quickly. Have you applied and not been accepted yet? There are no applications to join the group pending, so if not already accepted, then something has gone wrong. Try again and I'll look out for your name (Sabina?). I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you are in!

I'm not really sure what you mean about these images. In the second photo it has twisted its head 90 degrees so we are now seeing the underside of its head, and mouth parts.
