Over the last couple of weeks are garden has been plagued by the little black fly in these photos. Within a few minutes of being outside you get surrounded by them. They fly in your face and get stuck in hair.
I'm hoping someone can identify so we can work out how long they may be around. Thanks.

This looks like a male blackfly (Simuliidae). They breed in running water. and will be around for a few weeks. You may notice the females more, as they sometimes bite people.
