Fly on Umbellifer

Hello

This fly was found feeding on an umbellifer near Hedgecourt Lake, Surrey, TQ354405 on 26/07/2017. If any more photos are required please let me know! Would it be possible to get to family/genus/species? Any IDs much appreciated!

James

Re: Fly on Umbellifer

The wing venation, abdomen pattern and head shape suggest a female Sarcophagid - difficult even with a specimen and a key.

Re: Fly on Umbellifer

Thanks Phil for your very speedy reply, I suspected a female Sarcophagid however I wasn't sure. I'll have to go back and hopefully find a male.
