Keys

Morning,
I've been trying to find a key for Tephritids and the only one I have seen mention of is in an out of print RES Handbook, which I cannot get hold of. Are there any more up to date keys available that anyone knows of?

Re: Keys

How's your Dutch? The 2010 publication "De Nederlandse boorvliegen (Tephritidae)" by John Smit covers all known species from NW Europe, including GB, and has well-illustrated keys as well as species accounts. It is, however, entirely in Dutch.

Re: Keys

Hi Phil

Unfortunately my Dutch is very basic, not good enough for technical publications unfortunately - can order beer o.k though hmm

Thanks,
Anyway

Re: Keys

I can email you a handy test key that Alan Stubbs produced in 2009. For many species it works very well. For some, you would probably want to check more detailed descriptions to be sure of the determination.

Also don't forget to try the second hand market for a copy of White.

Also the RES had it listed as available as damaged stock fairly recently - so try their website to see if they still have copies

Re: Keys

That would be great thank you; will also look at the RES site again, although didn't notice it before. Will check a few of the entomology book sellers as well for second hand copies.

Thanks again smile
