Families of British Diptera
These descriptions of the families of Diptera that occur in the British Isles are derived largely from Pjotr Oosterbroek's recent key to “The European Families of the Diptera” (Oosterbroek 2006) and the “Dipterists Forum Starter Pack” (Alan Stubbs, 2003). They have already been edited to make them somewhat more British oriented, but more work is needed to make them readable to an audience of general naturalists. We are striving for a more discursive style like Colyer & Hammond's “British Flies”. So please help us edit the accounts for families you know something about with this in mind.
