Corrections and additions to the previous British checklist (Kloet & Hincks, 1976) appeared in Antenna until 1996, but ceased for the reasons stated by Shaw, 1996. Peter Chandler compiled an updated Checklist which was published by the Royal Entomological Society in 1998. Corrections and additions, also compiled by Peter Chandler, have subsequently been been published in Dipterists Digest (and can be downloaded from this web-site - see below). In addition, a new Irish checklist was published in 2008 (Chandler, et al., 2008) and updates to that are published in the same way.
The interactive version presented on this web-site is from a database derived from the Word document maintained by Peter Chandler and supplied to Stuart Ball twice per year, about the time that Dipterists Digest is published. It is intended to keep it up-to-date with the changes noted in Dipterists Digest, but the modifications are somewhat intricate and require careful proof reading so the process can take some time. Consequently, you are advised to check the list below to see whether the latest updates have been applied yet.
The Royal Entomological Society has decided that it will no longer publish Checklists in hard-copy format (because they need constant updating). Therefore, the current version of the Diptera Checklist, as maintained by Peter Chandler, is available for download here (in PDF format - see below). The file is replaced with a new version following the publication of changes in each issue of Dipterists Digest.
