New Forest meeting - May 2012
I'm sure there will be more posts but just to get the ball rolling...
How many Dipterists does it take to catch a fly? Here Alan Stubbs, Roger Morris, Martin Drake and Mark Mitchell prove that it is definitely more than 1

Candace and I headed off to the Beaulieu River at North Gate on the Sunday Morning having first tried collecting at Pig Bush. Both Sites were very bad for Diptera. Here are two photos of the Beaulieu River Site - Beautiful in spite of the absence of insects.
The 2nd photo is of Candace trying out her brand new pooter. Her approach of hovering up anything that looked even remotely like a fly was a good one, turning up some interesting records when we returned to Denny Wood. How many Dipterists collect things like Brachyopa pilosa and possibly a Ernestia laevigata (Tachinidae) on their first ever collecting trip.
My most pleasing find of the material I have been thought thus far, is a male Conops vesicularis and a Brachypalpus laphriformis.
