Re: Benefits of membership of Dipterists Forum

One of the big benefits of membership of the Forum is access to the test keys and unpublished material.  This is where you can see the expert's latest thoughts and key revisions.  A previously difficult fly family might become relatively easy using this newly available material.  This is especially true where the key has good illustrations such as line drawings and excellent colour photographs of specimens (see the Scathophagid key for example).

Re: Benefits of membership of Dipterists Forum

I would add that another big benefit is access to the colour pdf of the current Dipterists Forum Bulletin (neither a test key nor unpublished). Previous editions will also make their way onto this site from time to time.
The printed version will always trail behind the pdf by the length of time it takes the printers to photostat it and the "logistics" team of John Kramer and Mick Parker to distribute it.

Re: Benefits of membership of Dipterists Forum

A new benefit of membership is access to the latest distribution maps of flies covered by the recording schemes.  The first up with great distribution data is Laurence Clemons who has posted maps for Tephritidae as of Sept 11th 2008.  They are really worth a look. Hopefully other recording schemes will follow in time.

Re: Benefits of membership of Dipterists Forum

Lagging behind the distribution maps from the Stilt & Stalk Fly Scheme I put on this site 6 months ago! Or is it that mine weren't "great" Judy?

Re: Benefits of membership of Dipterists Forum

Oh, Darwyn, sorry I forgot - they are great!  I appreciated them at the time, but because I find so few Stilts and Stalks, I have not needed to consult them since and they slipped from the overstuffed memory.
