I don't see many people posting to the new website yet?

I see. Thought it got 'launched', certainly promoted at last weekend's BNHS Neglected Insects Conference.

Hi Colin,
I think we are in a fluid state between the existing and new sites. I guess that once the new site is fully launched the forums on this site will be closed to new postings.

After the issue of Recording Schemes has been addressed and resolved I trust. Messages in the the schemes listed below may be few, mostly originating from the organisers but the reads are enormous, I count 57,000+ on mine. Sure many of them are accidental but some of them are the result of genuine searches, I've material in published articles in the US as a result.
So not for a long time yet.

Where is the new website?

Thanks Ian,
I've only just seen your posting as I never got the email notifying me of your reply.
(I'm only visiting today because I got a notification that somebody had replied to one of my postings, but when I clicked it, it gave "Bad request. The link you followed is incorrect or outdated.")
The new front page looks nice and welcoming (unless you're a shield bug!)
In case it helps, the first-time log-in for DF log members doesn't recognise either my user name or email address. There doesn't seem to be any other way of joining without rejoining Dipterists Forum.

Your old DF username would not work as I understand that no member details have been transferred over from the old website, they are now all based on John Showers' membership list. If your email address is not recognised I think you will need to check with John that he has your correct email address.
It is possible that the response to your posting was from a spammer and their message has been deleted.

Hello every one,
I tried but I have no rights so too bad for me
Best wishes

If you are a member of DF check with John that he has your correct email address.
If you are not a DF member than I think you are correct about the situation.
It appears to me that it was decided that only DF Members will be able to log on to the new site and post messages or access DF-only material.

That's correct Ken, only members can post on the new site. We hope this will solve the problem of irrelevant rubbish postings from which this site unfortunately suffers.

Hello,
Forgive me if I am not a great English linguist but you use the term 'rubbish' which is pejorative.
I'm not a junk or a trash.
Your message seems to judge me useless. You are violent. I learned a lot about this site and I am surprised at your answer. Is it because I am French?
I am an entomologist and I am interested in Diptera and more specifically hoverflies. I have visited this site for almost ten years and I subscribed to the magazine for several years. I had to stop for financial reasons.
I'm not sure John shares your opinion.
If you feel I do not belong here I will not beg you.

Oh dear, I'm afraid we have a real misunderstanding here. I wasn't referring to your postings, Pierre, which are absolutely relevant and valued by me, and I'm sure by everyone else who visits this site because of their interest in flies. My post referred to the advertising for shoes, jewellery, vitamin supplements and other things which have nothing to do with entomology. These postings, which are indeed "rubbish", appear here with some regularity, and I am one of the people charged with deleting them. The arrangements for the new site should prevent these from appearing, and that was what my post was meant to say. As you are a member of the Forum you should be able to post to the new site once it is up and running fully, and I hope you will do so. Sorry I can't express this in French - I would if I could. You have obviously been deeply offended, and for that I am truly sorry, but please believe me when I say that you have completely misinterpreted my meaning.
Howard.

Good morning Howard,
It's up to me to apologize, I misinterpreted your comments, and I'm sorry.
At no time I thought you were referring to advertising. In addition, I did not know that the site was the prey of these advertisements. My English is bad and I think if I use google translation it would be even worse. Do not be sorry for not speaking French. See if I was more comfortable speaking English I would participate in the meeting or training but I prefer to write because I am slow and I have time to think. Obviously I would stay on this site and a big thank you for your welcome and congratulations for what you do on the Diptera on this site is great.
Best wishes

Thank you Pierre. I'm very glad this is cleared up. You needn't apologise for your English - I certainly wouldn't call it "bad" - quite the contrary. As an example of the sort of thing I was talking about, here is one that appeared this morning, and which I have now removed:
"Huge Male XL This is made up with a mixture of clinical high-quality fixings, and Huge Mule XL is a male improvement framework that has been planned to reestablish your youngsters and execution and help you encounter an tremendous, delighted and floor-breaking coexistence. Huge Male XL Reviews double activity equation not simply gives you a second flood in energy and execution but additionally treats the number one motive force of dysfunctions, ensuring that you could satisfy your companion, constantly. Now that's what I call bad English!
Howard.

Increible!, Howard. (That's used up my entire Spanish vocabulary now.)
It's good to exercise one's "lingustistics muscles". More than half the published papers I have to comprehend for species in my Recording Scheme are either in German or Russian. Online translators are great but they have their limits. For example I finished up with the phrase "leg of the legs" three times in one species description from a Russian paper. Entomological terms are absent from most of these translators.
New Year resolution: to register on Le Mondes des Insectes and add a few of my French diptera images to their gallerie (bringing this topic back to the subject of registering on a website.)

How many people are actually managing to log in to the new website? I have had a couple of tries but keep getting rejected.
Also, regarding the 'junk uploads' to this forum; I had an e mail notification of one today but see it has been deleted now, however another one has just arrived at the top of the list so I assume it will soon be removed. Attempting to keep these forums clear of questionable material must be a huge task, but it is something which is much appreciated by all of us who regularly visit this site.

I have managed to post to the new website Geoff but it took several attempts to log in for the first time. Even then I never got a chance to choose a Username so I am forever LE BOUTILLIER. Never mind. As you say I don't seem to have many playmates yet.

When you log in there should be a 'Manage' menu at the top of the screen and the option to 'Edit Profile' where you can edit your details, including user name. This menu appeared when I logged on but I do not know how to access it if it does not.

Thanks Ken. Didn't have the 'Manage' menu but was able to edit Username on the 'Edit' tab under My Account'.

Hello every one,
For me, this is the message I have when I give my email address :
"is not recognized as a username or an email adress"
good night

If your email address is not recognised I think you will need to check with John that he has your correct current email address in his membership list. The site is still under development and feedback on problems is useful.

I see that Pierre is listed as a DF Member so he should be able to get himself established on the new website. I had trouble using my old Username but discovered after about three goes at saying I could not remember my Password that the new system seems to default to a user's surname as their Username (in my case LE BOUTILLIER). Probably worth Pierre trying to log in as 'MILLE' saying he cannot remember his Password. Hopefully he will then get a temporary Password by e-mail. Once logged in he can change his Username if he wants to (see messages above).

My understanding (which may be completely wrong) is that you go to the logon page of the new site and at the logon screen select "Reset your password" rather than "Log In" if you have not logged in before.
https://www.dipterists.org.uk/user/password
This is effectively the 'forgotten password' screen and you enter your email address. If your email address matches that held in the DF Members list you will be sent a link to a page where you can set up your Username and password. You can then use these details when you next log on.
I think there is no connection between your Username on this site and the new one.
