Hello,
I have just noticed we have a record of Tipula limbata at SU5409 made on the 21/07/2007, Can I assume this is a misidentification? I notice the normal distribution on the NBN Gateway does not occur beyond Cumbria..
Thank you for any help,
Kind Regards,

Hi Lizzy. Do you have a voucher specimen, or any other clues? Your assumption may be right .... or wrong !! It makes the case for having a good local museum. Who was the collector and determiner ??? I'll check the database and see if I can find out more. Some populations in the New Forest are disconnected from more northerly ones.

Hiya John! Long time no see.
I have heard back from the identifier, Richard Dickson who tells me that that record was his mistake- it was an aberrant Tipula vernalis. It was initially caught in a Malaise Trap by Keith Wheeler, and identified from a specimen in March 2010, so there is still a specimen.
Thank you for your help, I didn't know they occurred in the New Forest!
