Spring Field Meeting - Somerset

Thanks to all involved for organising an excellent three days of fly hunting and evening camaraderie. Highlights I am aware of include:

Gazillions of Anasimyia lineata and Parhelophilus (including P. consimilis). A few Odontomyia ornata plus many O. tigrina, and a dozen or so male Hybomitra bimaculata.

A few images of flies from the trip are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/insectman … 8681379526

Re: Spring Field Meeting - Somerset

Somerset Levels was my first DF field meeting. I'd like to say how very welcoming participants were. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening discussion/banter in the George and Pilgrim pub in Glastonbury. A great chance to learn and digest.

Despite the patchy weather, people found some nice flies. My best one was a nice female Anasimyia transfuga (confirmed by Roger) at the Avalon Marshes reserve. Nigel and I found some very nice bits and pieces at Westhay on the Sunday (thanks Nigel). I'll compile my records for the field trip and send them to Roger.

Plenty on for me around my local Ely patch in Cambs. If any of you are around that neck of the woods, feel free to email me ([email protected]) and I'd gladly show you around some of the fly haunts.

All the best, Mark Welch
