I think I have established that this belongs in the Platypezinae. After that, things go down-hill.
It has a body length of 3.1mm and a wing-length of 3.5 mm and it came from broadleaf open damp woodland (Botley Wood, Hampshire) on 27th May.
My attempts to photograph an all-black fly have not been notably successful, so I'll supplement them by saying that it does have a row of bristles extending up the parafacalia. Also scattered small setulae on the lower face. It has 4 notopleural and two pairs of scutellar bristles. The abdominal terga are uniformly matt black, with some light dusting when illuminated from behind. The palps (or at least their tips) are black.
It really wants to come out at Platypeza consobrina, which really won't do since this should have a patterned dorsal abdomen. If it is not possible to get any further from these data, would it be possible to list all genera that have an all-black dorsal abdomen in the female, please?
