Can someone help with ID, please?

I saw this fly on my lavender on 19th August.

It's about 6 - 8mm long, with black legs, creamy-brown abdomen, and a 'smokey' suffusion to the outer wing, which also has a bulge - which makes me think it may be Phaonia genus.

Any help gratefully received - thanks.

Kate - could you put the record into iRecord? Would be useful for the recording scheme smile

Re: Can someone help with ID, please?

Chris,

Yes I will definitely add to iRecord.  Sorry for the late reply.  My 'winter' task is to compare all my records on iRecord  - (inc. flies, bugs, beetles and moths)  - with records I have previously submitted to NatureSpot and the various County Recorders, and then fill in any gaps.

Best wishes,  Kate
