I have tried every combination of usernames and passwords which I can think of and I can't get beyond the first stage. Reset password doesn't work because my username/e mail address are always rejected.
Possibly, once this older site gets switched off, I will have to resign from DF then reapply for membership. But at the moment there is little activity on the new site and this one remains the main posting area so I am not overly concerned until that happens.

All you have to do is scroll down to the bottom of the login page where it says Problems logging in? Then click on the hyperlink to contact Dipterists Forum. In the message section I gave a brief explanation of my problem, my current email address and my username on this forum. I soon received an email from Martin Harvey telling me that I could now reset my password using the email address that I had given him.

When you go to the new website and click on the "Log in" link from the menu at the top, you should get taken to this page:
https://www.dipterists.org.uk/user/login
Hopefully that page explains how the log-in process is intended to work, but if there is anything that seems unclear please let me know.
As others have correctly pointed out in the comments above, to be able to log in to the new site the system does have to recognise your email address, which will depend on John Showers having been given the correct email address when members last joined or updated their subscription.
